Done Deal

Many sources are reporting that Pedro Martinez has officially singed a 1 year/$1 million contract with the Phillies, that includes additional incentives worth up to $1.5 million. The team is expected to officially introduce Pedro as a member of the organization on Wednesday at Citizens Bank Park.

According to MLB.com's Todd Zolecki, Martinez is expected to begin a "rehab" or conditioning assignment in the minor leagues immediately. As Pedro is already in the Philadelphia region and all the local minor league clubs are home, it might seem unlikely that Pedro would be assigned to Clearwater at this time. The Lakewood BlueClaws are presently in the midst of a home stand that ends Monday the 20th. The double A Reading Phillies, currently on their all star break, are home starting Thursday with games through Sunday the 19th. The triple A Lehigh Valley IronPigs are home Thursday through Sunday also. Stay tuned to learn where to see Martinez.

A lot cheaper than everybody thought. Im still kind of undecided on it. Maybe his pitching will help make up my mind.

Yeah, I like it, for what they signed him for. It's chump change compared to what the Phillies are paying guys who are no longer with the team (Jenkins, Eaton, Thome).

If Martinez contributes, it's well worth it. If he doesn't do well, then it's not much lost on a monetary level.

Harry Kalas Phorever...

Legendary broadcaster Harry Kalas passed away today. Harry collapsed while preparing to call today's game against the Washington Nationals. So many phans will feel as though we've lost a member of our own families. I feel as though I've lost a part of myself, but Harry enhanced my love of the great sport we call baseball and I will always carry that love, and Harry, in my heart. I've stated on this page before that I consider Harry more of a Phillie than anyone who wears the uniform as an active member of the roster. Harry Kalas was a Phillie. Moreso, Harry Kalas was the Phillies. Please share your thoughts and memories of Harry in the comments section, or send them to PhoulBallz (at) verizon (dot) net.
