Speedy OF Quinn headed back to the big leagues

Roman Quinn, image- Jay Floyd Multiple reports on Friday have the Phillies promoting often injured outfielder Roman Quinn to fill a spot on the team's major league roster.  The addition will give the club an elite defender and a switch-hitting contributor that is a stolen base threat that can get in pitchers' heads .  The Phillies' 2nd round draft pick in 2011 has posted a .305 average with a pair of homers, 11 RBI and 14 steals in 28 games with Triple-A Lehigh Valley this year.  He's been working his way back of late, following surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right hand. Starting with his first full season in professional baseball in 2013, the center-fielder and sometimes-shortstop, Quinn, has played in 378 games throughout the Phillies organization. Roman Quinn,, image- Jay Floyd Outfielder Roman Quinn used his short stint in the big leagues late in the 2016 season as a chance to show that he belonged at the top level of the sport.  While he looked primed to get more opportunities at major league playing time with the Phils at some point last year, another ailment in a long list of injuries resulted in the youngster missing most of last season.  He hopes to ride a solid spring training campaign this year with the big club back to Philadelphia. Selected in the 2nd round of the 2011 MLB amateur draft, Quinn was converted to shortstop upon making his pro debut.  It was an experiment that did not prove successful, however, as he has returned to the outfield. Quinn would make his pro debut as a 19-year-old with short-season Class A Williamsport in 2012, posting a .281 average with nine doubles, a league-leading 11 triples, one home run and 23 RBI while swiping 30 bases in 36 opportunities. Quinn nearing return to full baseball activities and other injury updates

Roman Quinn, image- Jay Floyd Phillies fans that have gotten recent doses of well-regarded prospects Rhys Hoskins, Nick Williams and Jorge Alfaro may be wondering which other stars of the future could be making their way toward the big leagues when rosters expand in September.  A player that stands a chance at getting the call for the second year in a row is outfielder Roman Quinn. The 24-year-old has been on the shelf since late May dealing with a strain of his UCL in his non-throwing elbow.  However after a lengthy rehab period, Quinn is nearing readiness for full baseball activities in the coming days according to Phils director of player development Joe Jordan. The minor league schedule wraps up on Labor Day, so he won't be back with Lehigh Valley this year. Phillies minor league note book, 6/4/17

I haven't delivered my usual semi-weekly hot lists this year, as I have in previous season.  I hope to bring these back more often, so here's a note book on top prospect performers throughout the Phillies' organization... Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs (37-18 record, 1st place IL North Division)- Hoskins, image- Jay Floyd No player in the Phils' system has been as consistent as first base prospect Rhys Hoskins .  The 24-year-old righty batter's 1.005 OPS leads the International League.  Hoskins, who was the Phillies' 5th round draft selection in 2014 is batting .302 with 13 home runs and 41 RBI in 55 games this season. Outfielder Cam Perkins is batting .385 over his last seven games.  Perkins, a 26-year-old, has posted a .289/393/.480 slash line through 48 games this year.  The righty batter was a 6th round draft selection by the Phils in 2012. Roman Quinn, image- Jay Floyd Rising Phillies prospect Roman Quinn got a taste of the big league as a September call-up last year and had a successful spring with the big league team this year.  Opening the 2017 regular season with the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the talented outfielder is hopeful to return to the Phillies soon. The 23-year-old was a second round draft selection of the Phils in 2011.  Through six games with the IronPigs thus far, Quinn sports a .320 batting average with two doubles, three RBI and a stolen base.
