Pitching prospect Garner, others released, Dugan has setback

Garner, image- Jay Floyd Via the esteemed Jim Salisbury on Twitter, there were a couple noteworthy minor league reports on Sunday with righty hurler Perci Garner being released and outfielder Kelly Dugan returning home to heal from a stress fracture in his foot. Garner was the Phillies' second round draft choice in 2010. The 26-year-old sported a 19-23 record along with a 4.50 ERA and a .266 batting average against in 87 career games over his career. Dugan, the Phils' 2nd round draft selection in 2009, has not played this spring as he was initially sidelined with a stress reaction in his right foot. The injury was re-diagnosed as a stress fracture, with the 24-year-old returning to his native California to rest and recuperate. In his pro career to date, Dugan has tallied a .293/.368/.451 slash line in 425 games. Minor League Roster Announcements

JP Crawford, Image- Jay Floyd As the 2014 season draws near, rosters for the Phillies' minor league clubs have begun to surface. The Class A Lakewood BlueClaws will feature the return of last year's top draft selection SS J.P. Crawford . Local NJ product Mark Leiter Jr., who made his pro debut last year, will return to the Claws as well. The team's outfield will be made up of 2011 top pick Larry Greene Jr., 2012 2nd rounder Dylan Cozens , well-regarded youngster Carlos Tocci as well as Samuel Hiciano . Joining Crawford in the infield will be Andrew Pullin , Zach Green , Wilmer Oberto and Robinson Torres . The team's backstops will be two Velezuelans Gabriel Lino and Willians Astudillo along with Jose Mayorga of Panama. The Lakewood pitching staff will also feature Alejandro Arteaga , Tyler Buckley , Ranfi Casimiro , Cody Forsythe , Ulises Joaquin, Shane Martin , Manny Martinez , Julio Reyes , Yacksel Rios , Keivi Rojas, Jesen Therrien and Tyler Viza...

Threshers Promo Pics

This week the Ft. Myers Miracle (Twins affiliate) hosted a couple noteworthy promotions when they played against the Phillies' Class A Advanced club, the Clearwater Threshers.  Thanks to the Twitter feeds of a couple Threshers players, we got an inside look at some behind-the-scenes action. On Wednesday, the Miracle held their annual tribute to the Negro Leagues, when they donned the uniforms of the Newark Eagles while Clearwater represented the Homestead Grays.   Starting pitcher Perci Garner posted the below image of himself, along with some teammates including Tyler Knigge , Jesse Biddle and Ryan Duke , sporting the Grays gear. In addition, surging third base prospect Cody Asche took time prior to Thursday's "School is Out for Summer" promotion to pose for a photo with the most famous television school principal ever, "Mr. Belding" from Saved by the Bell, actor Dennis Haskins. Pitching Prospect Austin Wright Interview Excerpts

Austin Wright was selected by the Phillies in the 8th round on the 2011 amateur draft. Since then, the 21-year-old left-hander has looked great, posting a 4-2 record with a 2.70 ERA in 12 games at two levels. Additionally, the 6-foot-4-inch 235-pounder has struck out an impressive 67 batters in 56 2/3 innings pitched. The Illinois native spent two years pitching for Chipola Junior College before transferring to Ole Miss, where he faced tough competition in 2011. Wright was promoted from short-season Williamsport to Class A Lakewood on August 1st, following Ryan Duke and becoming the second 2011 draft pick to join the BlueClaws. Phillies Sign Top Draft Picks

The Phillies have agreed to terms with their top draft pick Jesse Biddle. The lefty pitcher Biddle was introduced at a press conference this afternoon, before the media, at Citizens Bank Park. A high school senior taken with the 27th overall pick, Biddle finished the season with a 9-2 record, a 1.06 ERA and an astounding 140 strike outs in 59 1/3 innings pitched for Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia. Biddle's contract agreement included a $1.16 million signing bonus. Today, the Phillies also reached an agreement with second round draft selection Perci Garner. The official signing is expected tomorrow. Garner, a Ball State pitcher, was taken 77th overall in the 2010 draft. With the BSU Cardinals this season, Garner posted a 5-3 record with a 4.62 ERA.
