Phils release OF Gillies

Tyson Gillies, image- Jay Floyd In unsurprising news, the Phillies announced on Sunday that they have released troubled outfielder Tyson Gillies . Gillies had developed a reputation of having behavioral issues, in recent years, as he's been suspended multiple times during his tenure with the Phillies organization. He's also missed significant time with varied injuries since he was part of the trio acquired for Cliff Lee from Seattle in 2009. Also, Gillies first made a name for himself when he was arrested on drug possession charges in 2010. The 25-year-old posted a .214/.270/.289 slash line in 43 games with Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season.

From PhilliesNation- Tyson Gillies, image- Jay Floyd Outfielder Tyson Gillies cleared waivers and was outrighted off the the Phillies’ 40-man roster. He will remain on the Triple-A Lehigh Valley roster. PhilliesNation’s minor league insider Jay Floyd contacted Gillies, who was one of three players acquired in the 2009 trade that sent Cliff Lee to Seattle, for comment today, but the 25-year-old British Columbia native declined to offer any thoughts. Gillies, who has had repeated disciplinary concerns since joining the Phillies organization and reportedly had a verbal bout with coaches over being removed from a game last week, is batting .217 with two homers and 10 RBI in 37 games with the IronPigs this year. - See more at: http://philliesnation.com/#sthash.R2Ao9Cpc.dpuf

Gillies Suspended, De Fratus Offers Positive Impression

Tyson Gillies with Reading in 2013, Image- Jay Floyd Bad luck continued for troubled outfielder Tyson Gillies on Friday, as the Phillies announced that the 25-year-old was suspended for three games. Confirming the rumor that he had taken his frustration out on some equipment after a tough loss for Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday night, a game in which Gillies went 0-for-5 and struck out four times, the youngster explained via his Twitter account what took place and resulted in the missed time. "I apologize to everyone for my actions and know this can't happen. Frustration got the best of me and I threw my equipment against the wall," Gillies tweeted . Gillies, a British Columbia native, joined the Phillies in December 2009 as part of the Cliff Lee trade with Seattle. Prospect Nation 2014: #23 Outfielder Tyson Gillies

Tyson Gillies, Image- Jay Floyd Outfielder Tyson Gillies has been plagued by injuries during his time in the Phillies' organization. In 2009, the British Columbia native was acquired in the trade that sent Cliff Lee to Seattle. Due to an inability to stay healthy, Gillies has not made the type of progress that the Phillies once hoped he would. When he was dealt to the Phils, Gillies was a top prospect of the Mariners that had played in the MLB All-Star Futures Game and appeared to be a solid candidate to possibly replace Shane Victorino in center field when the time came. In 2009, Gillies became a highly regarded player in the Mariners organization, as his offensive output excelled. Gillies posted a .341 batting average, which was good enough for third highest in the minors, with a Seattle organization leading 44 steals and a .916 OPS in 124 games with Class A Advanced High Desert. Over his four seasons since joining the Phillies organization, Gillies has tallied a ....
