PhoulBallz Interview: Tyler Carr talks Clearwater's combined no-hitter

Tyler Carr, image- Jay Floyd Righty reliever Tyler Carr was already enjoying a very successful season in the Phillies' organization when he contributed three frames to the Class A Advanced Clearwater Threshers' no-hitter on Saturday night.  Now, even the organization's big league manager is recognizing his efforts. After opening the season with Class A Lakewood and looking strong out of that club's bullpen, the 23-year-old was promoted to Clearwater, where he has continued to shine.. Carr, who was the Phillies' 31st round draft selection last year out of South Alabama, helped starter Kyle Glogoski and bullpen mate Keylan Killgore in tossing the team's first nine inning no-hitter since July 2016. In 20 total appearances this season, Carr, who is listed at five-feet-10, 175 pounds, sports a 3-1 record with two saves, a 1.25 ERA, a .197 batting average against and a 9.0 K/9 mark. PhoulBallz Interview Excerpts: Reading LHP Aaron Brown

Aaron Brown, image- Jay Floyd Aaron Brown was a two-way player at Pepperdine, standing out both as an outfielder as well as a pitcher.  The Phillies' 3rd round draft selection in 2014 was slated to play exclusively on the offensive side after signing that year.  But, after reaching the Double-A level as an offensive player and seeing his batting average come in under .225, he was switched back to the pitching role in 2017. Combined at Class A Advanced Clearwater and Double-A Reading last year, Brown posted a 3-6 record with a 4.90 ERA, a .271 batting average against along with an 8.8 K/9 mark in 46 total appearances. Entering his second full season as a professional pitcher, the 26-year-old will open the 2019 campaign back with Reading, where he ended last season.  Brown appeared in four games this spring with the major league Phillies, surrendering one earned run on two hits while striking out three and walking none in 2 2/3 innings of work. This wee...

Kapler to be named Phillies manager as per reports

Multiple reporters, starting with Jon Heyman , posted online Sunday night that the Phillies are close to announcing they'll hire Gabe Kapler as their next manager. Earlier Sunday, I wrote about how I thought the right choice was Dusty Wathan.  The long-time Phils minor league manager may have been passed over for the skipper role, but perhaps there's still hope for him to join the big league coaching staff. Kapler is currently employed as the LA Dodgers' director of player development. He was among the final candidates to manage the Dodgers prior to the team hiring Dave Roberts prior to the 2016 season. Kapler played as an outfielder in the big leagues with six team including the 2004 World Series champion Boston Red Sox. The move possibly won't be announced until after the World Series, which involves the Dodgers, is over. Fans & Twitter react- Philly is a Joe six-pack sorta town, so please welcome Gabe Kapler, the new Phillies manager, and his 8-10 p...
