Frosty Phillies Favorites: 2017 Christmas Player Survey

Santa Haseley Season's greetings!  Everybody loves the holidays and, of course, baseball players are no exception. Every year at Christmas time, I survey a group of Phillies prospects about what they get excited for during the holiday season. Drew Stankiewicz, image- Jay Floyd Clearwater second baseman Drew Stankiewicz has been lighting it up offensively in recent weeks. The 23-year-old lefty batter has used a sizzling stretch in which he's gone 15-for-34 (.441 avg) over his last 10 games to launch himself into the Class A Advanced Florida State League's batting average leaders and has helped the Threshers stay atop the North Division standings with a 20-14 record. Son of former big leaguer Andy Stankiewicz, Drew was the Phils' 11th round draft choice out of Arizona State University in 2014. Crawford injured, replaced in Arizona Fall League by Stankiewicz

Top Phillies prospect J.P. Crawford will miss the remainder of the Arizona Fall League season after suffering a small tear in his left thumb, as first reported by CSN's Jim Salisbury . Crawford, who was the Phillies top draft selection in 2013 (16th overall), had gone 3-for-20 (.150 average) in five games with Glendale in the AFL this month. The 20-year-old shortstop missed time early in the 2015 season with an oblique strain. In a season split between Class A Advanced Clearwater and Double-A Reading, the lefty batting Crawford sported a combined .288 batting average with a .793 OPS in 107 regular season games. He was also named a mid-season All-Star in the Eastern League with Reading and competed in the MLB All-Star Futures Game. The ailment for Crawford does not require surgery and he is expected to be healthy for spring training. Minor Moves: Canelo & Hoskins promoted, Kingery & Martin to debut

Malquin Canelo, image- Jay Floyd In news released by the Class A BlueClaws, a pair of Sally League All-Stars has been promoted from Lakewood to Class A Advanced Clearwater. Shortstop Malquin Canelo , who was honored with the South Atlantic League All-Star Game Top Star Award this week, and slugging first baseman Rhys Hoskins will join the Threshers on Thursday. Replacing the pair will be Phillies 2nd round draft selection Scott Kingery and 4th round draft pick Kyle Martin . Canelo went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk in the SAL All-Star Game this week after sporting a .311 average with five homers and 23 RBI in the first half of the season. PhoulBallz Interview: Phils 11th round draft pick Drew Stankiewicz

Drew Stankiewicz, image- Jay Floyd Infielder Drew Stankiewicz was an 11th round draft choice this year by the Phillies. The son of former big leaguer Andy Stankiewicz , Drew is already in the midst of his second stint with the Class A Lakewood BlueClaws. After posting a .305 average in his junior year this season at Arizona State University, Stankiewicz was anxious to begin his pro career and quickly signed with the Phillies. The 21-year-old batted .390 in July with short-season Class A Williamsport and rejoined the BlueClaws on July 30th.  He spent a week with Lakewood in June.  Through 13 games with the 'Claws, the five-foot-nine 160-pounder has posted a .156 average with an RBI and two steals.
