Hamels, a three-time All-Star and 2008 World Series Most Valuable Player, was originally selected by the Phils in the first round (17th overall) in the 2002 amateur draft.
Rosenthal points out that the proposed contract would make Hamels the second highest paid starting pitcher ever, trailing just CC Sabathia's 7-year/$161 million contract signed with the Yankees in 2008.
Expect more details of this signing to be unveiled on Wednesday.
**Update, 11:15 AM**
Everything appears to be final with Hamels deal, as reports now have his contract at 6-years, $144 million and with a vesting option that could bring the deal to 7-years and over $160 million.
