Threshers' Scheiner traded to M's for OF Bruce

Following hours of speculation about what the Phillies would be sending to Seattle in a reported impending trade, news broke on Sunday that the team would send righty batting prospect Jake Scheiner in exchange for Jay Bruce.

Scheiner, a versatile fielder, had played left field, center field, third base and first base this year for the Class A Advanced Clearwater Threshers. In 45 games in the Florida State League, the 23-year-old sported a .256 average with a pair of home runs and 20 RBI.

Bruce, 32, is a three-time All-Star. In 37 games with the Mariners this season, the lefty slugger possesses a .212/.282/.533 offensive slash line.

The Phillies will use Bruce to fill the void left by Odubel Herrera, who was placed on administrative leave last week following an arrest for a domestic violence related accusation.

According to Phillies.com's Todd Zolecki, the Phillies are to be responsible for just $2.75 million of Bruce's remaining salary.

Best wishes to Jake, who was a key member of the Class A Lakewood playoff team in 2018, in his professional career.

Division Lead Back to 3 Games

Six shut out innings by the bullpen, a diving catch by Jayson Werth and two homeruns by Chase Utley won the game for the Phillies and got their lead in the NL East back to 3 games over the Metropolitans. It was a surprising effort from the bullpen as Scott Eyre, JC Romero, Jack Taschner, Chad Durbin, Ryan Madson and even Chan Ho Park shut down the Mets lineup in the extra inning victory. It was a risky play by Werth, who could have allowed the winning run to score if he hadn't made the catch on the ball batted by David Wright. It was clutch hitting by Utley, who, with his second homerun of the game, gave the Phillies an 11th inning lead that they would not let up. Ryan Madson is acting questionable

I've seen similar types of "poking fun" entries on other Phillies blogs. When this picture came across my desk today, I figured, "Why not...?" Ryan Madson was out on the town (Manayunk) over the weekend and was photographed acting pretty with a purse slung over his shoulder and being chummy with a friend of mine. Can I really call him a friend, if he's actually my friends' friend , and I only prank called him once? Sure, why the heck not?!
