Phillies players & prospects weigh in on Pacquiao vs Mayweather

fight posterAbout a month ago, Phillies Nation featured a post with prospects Brian Pointer and Mark Leiter Jr. predicting the outcome of the entire WrestleMania 31 card. Now, as the biggest boxing match in history approaches, those two and others took time to offer their thoughts on Saturday night's huge title match between undefeated Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao with the unified welterweight championship on the line.

Read ahead for comments from Pointer and Leiter as well as Phils relievers Justin De Fratus and Mario Hollands, Phillies backstop Cameron Rupp, pitching prospect Matt Imhof, Lehigh Valley righty hurler Tyler Knigge, top prospect J.P. Crawford, Clearwater third baseman Mitch Walding, Reading's speedy center fielder Roman Quinn along with former Phillies All-Star and current minor league coach Mickey Morandini.

Pointer- Money Mayweather will win in a unanimous decision.

Leiter- I'll take Pac-man. Turn it into a three-fight series!

De Fratus- No prediction. I don't know a thing about boxing. But I'll be rooting for Pacquiao.


Hollands- I think Pacquiao will win. I'll be watching from Florida.

Rupp- I'm hopin' Pac-man takes it!

Imhof- I got Money Mayweather winning via unanimous decision.

Knigge- I hope Manny takes it.

Crawford- Got Team Money!

Walding- I got Money Mayweather winning it.

Quinn- I got Mayweather winning unanimously!


Following 10 replies, we're tied at five for each combatant.  With this crucial inquiry needing a determining vote, I contacted an elder.  Current Reading Fightins coach and member of the Phillies' 1993 World Series team Mickey Morandini was to be the deciding ballot.

Morandini- Don't really care, but I think Mayweather will win.

2022 Top Phillies Prospects Countdown: #13 OF Ethan Wilson

Taken with the Phillies' second round draft pick (49th overall) last year, outfielder Ethan Wilson has landed among the top prospects in the organization. A co-freshman of the year in 2019, with South Alabama, Wilson has been on the radar of some big league teams for quite a while.  In his junior season last year, Wilson batted .313 with seven home runs and 30 RBI.  When his collegiate season was through, the lefty hitter quickly debuted in the minors.   In 30 games with Class A Clearwater last year, Wilson tallied a .215 average with three homers, 17 RBI and two steals. Listed at six-foot-one, 210-pounds, Wilson opened the 2022 campaign with Class A Advanced Jersey Shore.  The 22-year-old has been slow to start offensively, but confidence and poise are not a problem for this strong, promising individual. I've seen similar types of "poking fun" entries on other Phillies blogs. When this picture came across my desk today, I figured, "Why not...?" Ryan Madson was out on the town (Manayunk) over the weekend and was photographed acting pretty with a purse slung over his shoulder and being chummy with a friend of mine. Can I really call him a friend, if he's actually my friends' friend , and I only prank called him once? Sure, why the heck not?!
