Weekend Series Preview: Marlins @ Phillies, 8/7-8/9


The second place Miami Marlins visit the first place Phillies this weekend. The Marlins are 7 games behind the division leaders. Below, you will find pitching match ups and other key notes from this series.

Friday, 7:35pm. Ricky Nolasco (7-7, 5.00 ERA) vs. Joe Blanton (7-5, 4.02 ERA). Nolasco in 10 career games against the Phillies is 4-3 with a 4.47 ERA and a .231 batting avg. against. He is 3-1 with a 3.20 ERA in 4 games at Citizens Bank Park. Chase Utley is 7-for-20 off of Nolasco, with a homer, 4 RBI and .985 OPS. Jorge Cantu has 4 careers hits against Hamels...3 of those are homeruns.

Sunday, 1:35pm. Josh Johnson (10-2, 2.98 ERA) vs. Jamie Moyer (10-8, 5.55 ERA). Johnson is 3-1 in 8 career games against Philadelphia with a 3.66 ERA. In 9 starts against the NL East this year, Johnson is 4-0 with a 3.10 ERA with 50 strike outs and 13 walks in 58 innings. Moyer is 13-2 against the Marlins in his career with a 2.83 ERA over 15 starts. Moyer at home this year is 4-6 with a 7.16 ERA in 11 games.


Dan Uggla is a .185 career hitter (23-for-124) in 30 games played at Citizens Bank Park.

2022 Top Phillies Prospects Countdown: #13 OF Ethan Wilson

Taken with the Phillies' second round draft pick (49th overall) last year, outfielder Ethan Wilson has landed among the top prospects in the organization. A co-freshman of the year in 2019, with South Alabama, Wilson has been on the radar of some big league teams for quite a while.  In his junior season last year, Wilson batted .313 with seven home runs and 30 RBI.  When his collegiate season was through, the lefty hitter quickly debuted in the minors.   In 30 games with Class A Clearwater last year, Wilson tallied a .215 average with three homers, 17 RBI and two steals. Ryan Madson was out on the town (Manayunk) over the weekend and was photographed acting pretty with a purse slung over his shoulder and being chummy with a friend of mine.
