PhoulBallz Q&A With TJ Warren

TJ Warren is an outfielder for the Class A Lakewood BlueClaws. TJ is a 6'4" righty hitter from California. He spent some time in Lakewood in 2008 and batted .251 with 2 homers and 30 RBI. He began 2009 with Williamsport, and was called back up to Lakewood by late July. Since his return, Warren is struggling and batting just .157 in 20 games. I had a chance to speak with TJ this past week and here is how that went down.

How did you feel to get the call to return to Lakewood?

I was very excited to come back. I love the area, love the fans, love to play here.

What are your goals going forward for the remaining weeks of this season and into the playoffs?

Just trying to get some momentum with hitting. Just hit the ball a little bit better and get on a roll going into the playoffs.

Can I get you to talk a little bit about the coaching staff here with Lakewood?

This coaching staff is really unbelievable. Everybody's relaxed, they like to have fun. They always help you, when you need help. They can give you a little one on one time. But then, all in all, it's always about having fun.

Away from the baseball field, what do you most like to do?

Play poker. I love it. World Series of Poker Champ. I don't play online, though, I just play in person.

If you could face any pitcher in baseball, who would it be?

It would have to be Mariano Rivera, 'cause he's my all time favorite pitcher.

What is your second best sport to play?

I love to go bowling...if that's a sport. I get about a 200 average.

What is your favorite baseball movie?

Angels in the Outfield. It's a very good movie.

Who was your favorite player growing up?

Rickey Henderson. He was the greatest base stealer of all time. I grew up watching him and we became great friends.

There are a lot of California guys on the BlueClaws team (Justin De Fratus, Travis D'Arnuad, Anthony Gose, D'Arby Myers). What's it like on the team, do you guys bond with that?

With the northern Cali and southern Cali, it's kind of a war. Anthony, D'Arnaud, De Fratus- all those clowns, they kinda hang together and pick on me, but I got the edge.

2022 Top Phillies Prospects Countdown: #13 OF Ethan Wilson

Taken with the Phillies' second round draft pick (49th overall) last year, outfielder Ethan Wilson has landed among the top prospects in the organization. A co-freshman of the year in 2019, with South Alabama, Wilson has been on the radar of some big league teams for quite a while.  In his junior season last year, Wilson batted .313 with seven home runs and 30 RBI.  When his collegiate season was through, the lefty hitter quickly debuted in the minors.   In 30 games with Class A Clearwater last year, Wilson tallied a .215 average with three homers, 17 RBI and two steals. Listed at six-foot-one, 210-pounds, Wilson opened the 2022 campaign with Class A Advanced Jersey Shore.  The 22-year-old has been slow to start offensively, but confidence and poise are not a problem for this strong, promising individual. On the base paths, Wilson is quick and can contribute with his feet.  Defensively, the Alabama native will likely play left or right field moving forward.  Possessing an ability t

Ryan Madson is acting questionable

I've seen similar types of "poking fun" entries on other Phillies blogs. When this picture came across my desk today, I figured, "Why not...?" Ryan Madson was out on the town (Manayunk) over the weekend and was photographed acting pretty with a purse slung over his shoulder and being chummy with a friend of mine. Can I really call him a friend, if he's actually my friends' friend , and I only prank called him once? Sure, why the heck not?!
