De Los Santos to represent Phillies at Futures Game

The rosters for the 2018 MLB All-Star Futures Game were released on Friday and this year's lone Phillies representative is slated to be Triple-A All-Star pitcher Enyel De Los Santos.

De Los Santos, 22, has been remarkable all season long with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, posting a 9-3 record with a league leading 1.83 ERA and an 8.2 K/9 mark through 16 starts. 

The six-foot-three 175-pound right-hander was acquired last off-season from San Diego in a trade for Freddy Galvis.

The Dominican native was named to the World roster, which will be managed by David Ortiz with Francisco Cordero acting as the squad's pitching coach. 

The game is set for Sunday, July 15th and will be played at Nationals Park in Washington, DC.

In recent years, individuals that played in or attended the All-Star Futures Game have been permitted to skip their league's All-Star events in order to get some time off over the break.  The Futures event, however, typically occurs in the same week, before minor league All-Star Games.  The Triple-A All-Star Game is prior to the Futures Game, taking place on the previous Wednesday.  It's unclear if De Los Santos, who was voted in as the International League team's starting pitcher, will make the Triple-A All-Star trip to Columbus, OH, but the Phillies will likely prefer him to pass on one of these exhibitions. 

Last year the Phillies were represented in the Futures Game by current big league contributors Rhys Hoskins and Scott Kingery.

Heroes- Fight of the Century

VS. It's a big day for your boy, Jay Ballz . No work, X-Men Origins: Wolverine premieres, our Phillies face the Metropolitans for the first time this season and tailgating for BOTH doesn't sound all that absurd to me. Anyway, I surveyed some qualified phans and got several opinions on how exactly a fight might go down if the mutant hero Wolverine faced off against Phillies hero Matt Stairs. Well known blogger, Chris, of I've Made a Huge Tiny Mistake , kept it real and said the following- "Wolverine has adamantium ( indestructible metal substance) claws, so that's a great advantage. Stairs' Wonder Bat is neutralized there. See, the problem becomes Wolverine's ability to recover (he has a regenerative power) faster. Stairs is merely human. Phreestyle Battle & Notes

Unrelated to baseball, really...but it's fun and our Phils are off today. This new kid on the hip hop scene, Charles Hamilton , whose single Brooklyn Girl is ripping up radio and video count downs, was at PSU for a performance recently. A freestyle battle ensued, and as you'll see, the Penn State student held his own. Stay tuned for the ending. It's the best part. Here are some random Phillies-in-idle baseball thoughts and notes- Colbert Hamels is slated to make his Grapefruit League debut tomorrow vs. Team Canada. Shane Victorino is going to wear #50 on his jersey for Team USA, a nod to Hawaii Five-O. Brad Lidge is likely to not see game action till next week, after he throws some more bullpen sessions and works out the tightness in his forearm. Albert Pujols is declaring "respect for his country" as reasoning for sitting out of the Cardinals' exhibition this week against Team Dominican Republic.
