Phils, Top Pick Greene Agree to Terms

Shortly after midnight, Monday, news hit the web that the Phillies had signed their top draft pick, slugger Larry Greene.

According to Baseball America's John Manuel, the team and the player agreed on a $1 million signing bonus.

Greene, a 6-foot-1-inch 225-pound outfielder out of Berrien County High School in Georgia, was selected 39th overall this year in the annual MLB amateur draft.

The 18-year-old Greene posted a .562 average with 11 doubles, 1 triple, 19 home runs, 52 RBI and 13 steals in his senior season this year.

The news of the signing comes less than 24 hours before the deadline to submit official notification of a contract to the commissioner's office.

Philadelphia's second round draft pick, high school speedster Roman Quinn, remains unsigned.

Listed at six-foot-one, 210-pounds, Wilson opened the 2022 campaign with Class A Advanced Jersey Shore.  The 22-year-old has been slow to start offensively, but confidence and poise are not a problem for this strong, promising individual.
